Coping with seed-breaking changes #15748

I mean, if it's about reproducing the exact same image, you already made that image, reproducing it again will just make that same image again, why not just copy and paste the same .PNG or .JPG? As a sort of sanity check and benchmark it's understandable, but this tech is constantly changing so that sanity check and benchmark is more of "a snapshot of what the tech was able to make at that specific point in time" rather than "it's what it will always be and should be". If it's about reproducing the same overall quality or overall subject, then it's about experimenting more with newer parameters, samplers, schedulers, altering prompts, using newer extensions, checkpoints, Loras, ControlNets, etc. to get the same or even better pixel quality and subject coherence. |

Hello everyone,
I've been trying to upgrade my A1111 SD instance these past few weeks. Ideally, I would like to be running on the latest version, so that I can stay on top of the latest features, extensions, etc. However, I noticed during my trials that I was no longer able to reproduce some of the images I had generated on my original instance version (1.3.2). Specifically, images I generated that used the DPM++ SDE Karras sampler prior to version 1.6.0 can no longer be reproduced precisely.
I've done a lot of tinkering with the settings, especially those related to compatibility, sampler parameters, etc. It appears to be specific to the images that I used DPM++ SDE Karras on (though it's possible there may be other samplers affected by this). I realize that there have been seed-breaking changes with certain releases of A1111, and I have reviewed them to see if there's something I can do to avoid this problem.
The point of my post is not to try to troubleshoot this (though I certainly would welcome any help in that regard). Rather, I'm wondering what most people wind up doing when faced with a situation like this. If you upgrade, and you can no longer reproduce images you created in the past, how do you handle it? Do you simply shrug your shoulders and say, "Oh well"? Do you try to maintain multiple SD instances so that you can reproduce them if you really want to? Or maybe not too many of you actually have this issue? I'm very curious to hear your responses on this!
Thanks so much!
