I am new to any knowledge of WinesapOS. Being in Australia, I cannot as yet purchase a Steamdeck device, and would like to run it on VMWare. I've tried to create a steamOS VM previously, but seemed to run into problems. Would you be able to make it obvious how to download the image for WinesapOS, please Thank you |

Hey @Fenderfubs , thanks for your interest in winesapOS! SteamOS currently only has support for AMD graphics driver. For winesapOS, I took the same exact source code Valve is using and re-enabled support for other graphical drivers including the virtual VMware driver. That means that with winesapOS you can get the SteamOS experience while using VMware virtualization programs. Are you having issues using our image or do you need help downloading it? I recommend starting here with our "Requirements" section and then work your way down to the "Setup". You will be downloading and extracting a raw disk image that can be used as a virtual machine that is fully configured and ready to go. No installation required. Let me know if any of our documentation is unclear. https://github.com/LukeShortCloud/winesapOS#requirements We currently only have some documentation around using winesapOS in GNOME Boxes and Virtual Machine Manager. Both of which are Linux exclusive. I'll take this as an action item to create some documentation around using VMware virtualization. Are you using (1) VMware vSphere, (2) VMware Workstation, and/or (3) VMware Fusion? Fun fact: I work for VMware! :-) That being said, winesapOS is a personal project not related to work. |

-->G’day,I’m basically bedridden, and have been trying to install SteamOS on a VM container, Failed miserably every time. I noticed WinesapOS, and thought it may be easier. Sadly, the same result. IIf you could point me to either an idiot proof instruction, or a pre made contioner, please. Thank you. Maybe if I finally can run it, Steamdeck will become available to buy in Australia. -->Hi again.I followed the instruction, and it installed the OS, then started installing apps.Sadly, after it finished, and I thought all my Christmas’ had come at once, it required a reboot. That was the end. Keep rebooting to a flashing cursor, (after various bits).I don’t know what went wrong.Any thoughts? -->I used an application called ‘StarWind V2V Converter’As for size, I changed the size to Disk size: (increase to at least 64 GB), 64GB, though the image didn’t change size as it required the reboot first.I personally don’t understand as to whether I screwed it up. I wash reading the steps carefully as I went. Is there any choices that I should have made upon reboot. Because I saw a menu come up, though most were the same, but the last option was ‘Steamdeck’? I used the Performance image.I will try will the Minimal image, just to see. (Discussion #285) The only thing I can think of is if the VMDK image was never resized or not resized big enough then that could happen. I've been daily driving the minimal image for a few days and it has been working for me. What image type did you use and how large is your VMDK image?—Reply to this email directly, view it on GitHub, or unsubscribe. You are receiving this because you were mentioned.Message ID: ***@***.***> Virus-free.www.avg.com

When winesapOS first boots, there is a service that resizes the root file system to fill up 100% of the available space. If winesapOS was already booted once and then the VMDK image was resized, that could cause problems. I will add an additional note to our documentation about that. I also have been seeing a lot of forums recommending StarWind V2V Converter for converting image types so I'll also add a recommendation for that as a GUI option. |
