When using the shortcuts app to create a shortcut that points to the md5 url of an imported rom, only the app itself launches. The game does not launch until it is tapped on, then it runs fine. This same feature was tested in the Delta emulator and it works as expected.

Expected:

App launches and automatically boots into the rom with the corresponding md5 url.

Actual:

Only the app (provenance) launches

Reproduce:

  1. create a shortcut within the Apple shortcuts app
  2. Use the "open url" command and paste in the md5 url where it says "url"
  3. Save and attempt to boot game with shortcut either on the shortcuts menu or using a homescreen shortcut.

Discussing this feature with others on Reddit, they did confirm that this used to work (or they at least remember it working in the past.)

Thanks for the report.

I do like this feature, but I don't use it often. I may have an idea what broke it, though.

This would be useful for QR codes or NFC tags on boxart to load roms, for example, if you wanted some kind of physical media to play action.

Imagine programming RFID tags to have an open-url command on the MD5. You could use iPhones' RFID feature to load a ROM by tapping that tag attached to some box or other physical object.

That sounds really interesting. I also love having my games on the homescreen with my other iOS game just for the aesthetic. Thanks for checking into this though! Your work is very much appreciated on this software.
