    I would like to see GNOME/KDE-style 1:1 animations when switching desktops with a trackpad swipe, something akin to Hyprland's implementation.

It seems like there was a similar implementation a long time ago

That appears to handle trackpad gestures, which were implemented in 1.8, not swipe animations.
