UI has major issues (unable to click add vault) - POP OS 22.04 NVIDIA #3313
Comments
Hi, the logs you posted do not contain anything unusual. My Pop!_OS is running X11. I checked that with Did you install the common Pop!_OS 22.04 version too or the NVIDIA version? Do you run a special graphics card or video driver? |
Hi and thanks for your reply. I indeed installed the NVIDIA version, as I have a NVIDIA GPU. So maybe that is indeed the issue... I'm also running X11 Below the hardware I'm running:
|
I googled around a bit. Graphics Switching on (Pop!_OS) and this stackoverflow question both suggest the same to make an NVIDIA dGPU work with JavaFX: set certain environment variables on launching the app:
Does this change anything for you? |
no, unfortunately not...
|
The log you shared shows that the application found another running instance and therefore shut down. But starting the application with the environment variables set does not make the application UI responsive? The stackoverflow question suggests a third variables. Did you try that?
|
Ok, and what is the result on starting the application with different environment variables? Any difference? |
there isn't any... it's exactly as before... no button can be clicked, no pull-down menu opens.. I have another machine with PopOS (no nvidia), it works just fine.. |
As much as I would like to help you, I do not know how. |
If there is anything I can do to help you debug, please let me know... I believe this really only happens with the NVIDIA version, and I'm surprised nobody else has that issue, as I'd assume quite a lot of Nvidia users out there... |
Thanks for trying. It's hard for me to understand that nobody else here has that issue, as I'm quite certain I'm not the only user of Pop-OS with NVIDIA... Will try and uninstall and reinstall and see if I can see anything fishy in the logs. |
Hi everyone, just one more log file issue I just came across (still having the same issue from the ticket): [JavaFX Application Thread] ERROR o.p.k.f.dbus.handlers.Messaging - Severe error: Kwallet daemon not initialized properly Could this be the reason the UI doesn't work properly? |
No. This is one of the services loaded by the application on startup, that isn‘t available on your system, but has no UI relevance. |
It might be worth in your case to check, that your NVIDIA drivers are working properly. You can check dmesg, whether the kernel loads and uses your drivers. Furthermore, there are issues with NVIDIA drivers on POP!_OS like this older one, so maybe installing other NVIDIA driver packages from POP!_OS may help. |
Hi there, bumping this issue as it now ALSO appears on UBUNTU 24.04 with NVIDIA GPUs. Hence I believe this is important for you to know about. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS |
Am I the only one that is having an issue on a fresh install of Ubunut 24.04? |
