Highlights

Welcome to release v1.93.0 of Immich. There are many updates in this version that we hope you'll like. Some of the key highlights include:

• Improved face grouping for facial detection - switch to DBSCAN clustering algorithm.
• New usage quota mechanism for users - specify the maximum storage each user can use on the server.
• Improve the deletion actions on the mobile app - Present explicit options to clear up confusion about each action.
• Faster map rendering on the mobile app.
• Force deletion with Shift + Del on the web app.
• Notable fix: The web can now show assets with a date in the future.

New face clustering algorithm

To improve the accuracy of grouping faces, Immich is now using a more advanced clustering algorithm for facial recognition called DBSCAN. This algorithm introduces a concept of density, making facial recognition more precise. To better understand DBSCAN's work, please watch this video for a step-by-step visualization.

In addition to better facial recognition, a feature of this change is the ability to re-run facial recognition without re-processing each asset. This is because the Recognize Faces job has been split into two jobs: Face Detection and Facial Recognition, with only Face Detection processing images with machine learning models. Re-running Facial Recognition (say, after changing facial recognition settings) is much quicker as a result.

Usage quota

You can now specify the storage quota for the user as the instance’s admin; once the limit is reached, the user won’t be able to upload to the instance anymore.

Deletion actions on the mobile app

To increase the wife-approval-factor aspect of Immich, we always try to improve the UI/UX, and make the application simpler for non-tech-savvy users. To make the delete action easier to understand, we now have three separate buttons to handle different scenarios that can happen, which are presented in the table below.

And as always, bugs are fixed, and many other improvements also come with this release.

I hope there will be some tools for users to manage their libraries to clear out large and/or unused files/very similar files or to be able to sort by them, similar to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement where you can review and delete "Large photos & videos" or czkawka's similar images/videos feature

Is the image stacks feature being removed, or is this a bug with the latest Android build?

Instead of the Stack button, I get the Upload button although the selected photos have already been uploaded.

I'm not entirely convinced that adding more delete actions improve the wife approval factor. There is a whole table needed to explain the feature.
Maybe it could be simplified by realizing that the action that will probably be performed most often is the "remove everywhere" action on merged or remote assets. This is a safe action, since it moves the items to thrash. I think that should be the only action with a button, instead of having three buttons. The other actions might be in a context menu

I was thinking the same. Looking at the bigger Brother Google Photos:

• one delete Button that moves files from Immich to „Immich-Trash“ ( Auto empty trash After 30/60/90/something days)
• A „free up Space on device“-Button in the Settings that Removes all Backed up files which are still Stored on the phone. So you are not clicking the wrong Button by accident.

Yeah for freeing up space on the phone I would have a dedicated button somewhere else. This could have options like deleting photos older than X time, videos older than X time and a checkbox for keeping photos that are in albums (though that would only really be useful once the immich app is usable offline).

Freeing up space on the server is less of a priority to me, since photos don't take up a lot of space relative to what you would have on a home server. A VPS might be more tight on storage

with the separate implementation of face detection and recognition - would it be possible to run a new recognition on all non hidden face groups, which are not named? This way classified faces would keep and there will be a chance to recognize new matches.
