Can an istio-proxy container proxy sending OTEL spans to the mesh's default tracing provider?

My istio control plane is configured to forward all telemetry to a Jaeger instance, I'm able to build out full traces when my applications forward their spans to the same instance. E.g. -Dotel.exporter.otlp.traces.endpoint=http://jaeger-collector.istio-system:4318/v1/traces

Is it possible to use the istio-proxy to do this instead and let it handle the rest? E.g. -Dotel.exporter.otlp.traces.endpoint=http://127.0.0.1:15090/v1/traces
