I install live-share into VS code and share my work. So far this seems permitted in a commercial setting. Then I share the link with someone, if you paste the link into the browser you end up after some re-directs on vscode.dev with the shared session. This is great, what is not great is the surprising disclaimer that this service may be only used in non-commercial setting.

The Work around is to copy&paste the link into a running VS Code instance and Join the session. However there is a high risk that an employee pastes the link and is un-intentionally violating the terms of use of the vscode.dev web-page.

Questions:

  1. shall our IT block this website?
  2. is it possible to get a link which is safe to use in a commercial environment without additional fees?

What was your system configuration?
Product and Version [VS/VSCode]: VSCode 1.89.1
OS Version[macOS/Windows]: Linux
Live Share Extension Version: v1.0.5918
Target Platform or Language [e.g. Node.js]: anything

Steps to Reproduce / Scenario:

Expected Solutions - pick any

  • configuration option to not use the redirect to the MS hosted vscode.dev instance, may be a link to our own instance?
  • clarification that this is permitted
  • self hosted live-share server which does not use MS webservices which are not permitted for commercial use
