Checkboxes stop working after empty text

I have searched the issues for the word "checkbox". There are many checkbox related issues, but this bug was not submitted yet.

• OS Version: Windows 11 Home 23H2
• Notable Version: 1.8.4

Current behavior

Enter this markdown:

- [ ] a
- [ ] b
- [ ] c
- [ ]
- [ ] x
- [ ] y
- [ ] z

• a, b and c work fine, but x, y and z do not.
• Clicking x checks the empty checkbox, while it is not even rendered as a checkbox; it is rendered as text: [X]
• Clicking y checks x, but you can't uncheck it.
• Clicking z checks y, but you can't uncheck it.

Expected behavior

• The empty checkbox should be rendered as a checkbox;
• x, y and z should work as expected.
