Hi,
as docker now has a public preview for ARM based Macs, i tried to install the Docker Image for the 12.2.0.1 Version but ended up getting the following error:

Oracle Linux is available for Am, but Database is not.

@Djelibeybi dude that's not very usefull at all. how about finding a solution rather than just closing the issue?

apparently you are able to run x86 docker on arm machines, so if you specify docker buildx build --platform linux/amd64 https://github.com/oracle/docker-images/blob/master/OracleDatabase/SingleInstance/dockerfiles/buildDockerImage.sh#L216 here, you overcome the error i posted earlier. it still fails, but a lot further down the installation process

@torbenrockstar if you send me an M1 Mac, I'll be as helpful as you need . 😄 Until then, and as you have identified, you'll need to use buildx to build for x86 (like you do to build for Arm on x86). Therefore the convenience scripts will not be useful.

However, I will reopen the issue to see if we can resolve the later build failure.

if i comment out that part, the build will finish without any error, but docker run then (of course) gives some errors

If that script doesn't exist, the database didn't install properly. You'll need to review the entire output to see what happened earlier.

It may be easier to use the XE image as that requires less resources. On that note, make sure your Docker VM has sufficient CPU and memory allocated to allow the DB installation to complete. There are previous issues you can search for more detail

hm there aren't any more errors in the output before that error. can i somehow see ALL the output that is generated? sending the output of the script to a file isn't working

There is no way to run Oracle Database on an M1 Mac as there are no Arm binaries for the Database and no way to emulate x86-64 effectively enough for the container to run.

Are there any specifics on exactly what is missing from the x86-64 emulation? I haven't had problems with anything else before. PostgreSQL and OrientDB containers work fine for example. So does every other x86-64 nix package that I have tried. It would be nice if this was raised with the Docker Desktop team so that perhaps they could handle this case.

Hi guys, I have try with

colima start --memory 4 --arch x84_64
docker run --name ....

but this didn't work. I think that even creating a VM with colima, oracle-xe is still not compatible with M1.
Can anyone recommend a better solution? Although there aren't any ARM binaries for the database.

You write "calima"? With "a"? Try colima, with "o".

Uninstall docker if you install and try:

brew install colima
brew install docker
colima start --memory 4 --arch x86_64
docker run --name .....

When my java app connects to the db is really slow, on windows used to take 20 sec, now takes like 2 minutes. Anyone experiencing same? I've tried different cpu and memory parameters but doesn't seem to have much impact. Could it be network/port related?

A side note, oracle-xe will not use more than 2GB of ram and 2 cpu cores, so you can reduce those values, at least in the docker run.

I successfully run x86 Oracle container with colima on apple Virtualization.Framework on macos13 on m1

installation steps

1. Install x86 oracle on Intel Linux;
2. Compress the ORACLE_BASE directory and copy it to m1;
3. Build the x86 docker container and install the necessary dependencies for the oracle runtime, such as libaio;
4. Specify VOLUME standby inside the container;
5. Enable rosetta2 and Run the container and map ORACLE_BASE to the container.

@stebielli @enavarrocu I installed Oracle on x86 Linux on full virtualization. After the installation was completed, everything was tested to be normal, and then ORACLE_BASE was packaged as a whole. Only libaio dependencies were installed in the container, and the image file was opened /opt/oracle VOLUME, when running the container, map the local Oracle binary file to the /opt/oracle directory in the container, and it can be run through rosetta2 escape

This is equivalent to copying the installed Oracle binary to M1, and then use the docker container to mount it and run it. Before that, you need to install the necessary dependencies and Oracle configuration environment in the container. If the first step can be installed successfully, then Installing in a container is not a problem

No, but with the HEAD version of colima I was able to build the image. Unfortunately I get a [WARNING] ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel when I start the DB.

To use colima HEAD with rosetta 2 I followed these commands:
brew install --HEAD colima
colima start --arch aarch64 --vm-type=vz --vz-rosetta

it works only with OS version Ventura 13.1

I've tried with Rosetta 2 and no luck. It's not entirely clear why. It gets stuck in some weird shutdown phase. The alert log only shows the recommentations for memlock and page sizes. I get a whole raft of different errors depending on what I try to do.

I have been working on this for quite some time and just got it all working.

My stack is:

• Docker 4.2.1 for Apple Silicon
• Oracle 19 for Linux for ARM (LINUX.ARM64_1919000_db_home.zip)
• Oracle Linux for ARM (oraclelinux:7-slim)
• The Docker images are build using the official Oracle scripts

It works nice and pretty fast on an M1 compared to my original Intel i7 environment.

I have a coworker who is trying to pull this down. I am able to do so, but she is getting error pulling image configuration: image config verification failed for digest sha256

She is on a corporate m1, I am on a corporate intel. She can pull things from the docker registry just fine. She also signed in to oracle both website and docker successfully, and accepted the user agreement for enterprise. What might we be missing?
