If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to set the environment variable so that it affects the behaviour of both Setting Note that you also have a third
I don't know what this means, sorry. At this point it doesn't seem like your questions really have to do with Homebrew -- I'm happy to try to answer your questions if I know the answers, but you might be better served getting help elsewhere. |

@carlocab thanks for your tips. My questions are Homebrew related, apologies if we've gotten off track on the frameworks discussion. To reframe: I've installed gtk via Homebrew. When I run a basic C program that makes a call to gtk.h the code can't find it. With the Homebrew path for pkgconfig in my environment (/usr/local/opt/gtk+3/lib/pkgconfig) even If I hard code in the Homebrew path to the gtk.h find as a #include once it finds gtk.h it then it can't find the other packages gtk requires (cairo, etc). Homebrew is the only way I've installed gtk. As there is a gtk formula for gtk I'm looking for help as to why an app can't find it. Any tips you have would be most welcome and I'm happy to provide the .pc files I have for gtk. Thanks again |

@gromit thank you so much! Your suggestion is moving things forward. I upgraded gtk to gtk4 on the advice of another poster. I tried this on both Apple Intel (Big Sur) and Apple Silicon (M1, Sonoma). [homebrew lives in different places for each: usr/local/bin/pkg-config for Intel; /opt/homebrew/bin/pkg-config for M1). Both now report this homebrew-related issue which I can't resolve: INTEL: M1: I know gio is part of glib and have verified that: Any tips on how I can force gio to upgrade? Have tried brew upgrade glib, etc. I searched and googled around and made a post to gnome. Thanks, again for all the help. |

pkg-configfails to find some libraries installed by Homebrew.I'm trying to compile a very simple gstreamer app that uses gtk+3 which is installed via Homebrew. This error that is produced:
I tested for pkg-config:
And did this:

printenvproduces this:PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/Library/Frameworks/GStreamer.framework/Versions/1.0/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/Cellar/gtk+3/3.24.41/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/Cellar/libepoxy/1.5.10/lib/pkgconfig/I've forced #include in my code, however I shouldn't have to do this - pkg-config should find everything. Please note that pkg-config does find gst.... Here's a snip from the app:
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm stuck and need to try to move this soon to Apple Silicon. Thanks very much.
