I was just wondering if I could contribute in this project by coding a new UI design for it!

What exactly do you mean with "UI Design"?
A window server? A theme for the blog?

In any case, I think it would be beneficial if you could outline what exactly your plans would be, and maybe submit a prototype to enable further discussion.
