As an extra paid feature, I'd love to see automatic LLM-generated summaries, like apricot

This would be a big time saver, allowing me to more quickly see whether or not a post is worth reading in full.

Ideally, it could also optionally fetch from the source page and summarise that, in the case that the feed entry is truncated.

Given the cost of LLMs, I imagine this as a paid add-on that is limited to a certain number of posts depending on your plan. But for it to be useful, the summaries would have to able to be generated ahead-of-time somehow, rather than on demand, because that would introduce a delay.

Perhaps there could be a button: generate summaries for all visible posts in the list. After which you could quickly scroll down and skim through them.

I'm against this feature as most LLMs compromise users' privacy.

@shuvashish76 I mean an opt-in feature, certainly.

Android users can try https://github.com/talosross/SummaryYou
Share the article from NewsBlur to SummaryYou.

Thanks for the useful suggestion but this isn't really what I'm suggesting - I mean to be able to use the Newsblur feed to show summaries of multiple articles at once, allowing the user to see easily whether an article is worth clicking through to read in full.

If each article had to be manually shared between applications, then you had to wait for the summary to generate, you don't really save much time vs skimming it yourself.

I'm not against the proposal as long as

  1. This feature would be opt-in i.e. disabled by default. I don't like AI summaries & connecting my ip to such 3rd party AI providers & various other privacy issues.
  2. And doesn't increase the size to 5-10x +more similar to SummaryYou. Unusable to many low end devices. Not worth only for this feature.
