Best Practices for Positive, Constructive, and Empathetic Feedback/Discussions

Hi Everyone! 👋

The Sanity community is a place for collaboration and sharing knowledge. With that in mind, we invite everyone to help us make Sanity Studio v3 the best ever, no contribution is too small! Here are a few guidelines to help make sure our discussions and public forums remain welcoming for everyone:

Keep an Open Mind and Welcome Everyone

• We welcome all experience levels in our v3 discussions and expect you to do the same
• It is important to be open to ideas and opinions beyond your own and to make space for people who are getting started

Mutual Respect

• Recognize that we all have value and something to contribute to this space
• Provide constructive criticism: critique ideas, never the person
• Humans are passionate beings - If you find yourself not being able to engage in a respectful way, take a step break/leave the forum, and come back after you collected your thoughts.

Helpful Hint: WAIT (WHY AM I TALKING?) METHOD - If a discussion/exchange gets heated or emotionally charged, deploy the WAIT method! Take a deep breath and ask yourself "Why am I talking?" This will lead you to think about what it is you are really trying to communicate and is usually enough to impose de-escalation of the conversation.

Empathy and Acknowledgement

• Sanity is a diverse, global community and we represent a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Try to understand your fellow community members' feelings before giving a response.
• Small acknowledgment, goes a long way: When a community member answers your question or provides encouragement, thank them for their help.

Inclusive Language

• Remember, we’re not only “guys” – including us at Sanity HQ – (we are people, folks, friends, y’all, etc...)

Reporting

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible.
