A few days ago I got the message below in Caprine on two Arch desktops. The message appeared spontaneously, not as a result of starting the app. How can I get around that message? Because otherwise I cannot use this app as I don't want to install the Facebook phone app.

Interestingly the same issue happened (at about the same time it appeared in Caprine) in a unofficial Android app that I use, SlimSocial. I also don't know how to get around it.

Connecting to Messenger on a desktop via https://www.facebook.com/messages I am not asked that question, however I am asked if attempting to connect to Messenger via messenger.com, or if trying to connect with either url with a phone with a browser.

I live in the EU/EEA, this may be a factor.

In a nutshell, right now it seems that the only means to use messenger without a phone app is on a desktop or laptop connected to facebook.com/messages.

[xxxx (my name)], open the Messenger app on your phone to continue
As part of changing laws in your region, you need to make a choice about your Messenger experience. To make your choice and for more details about how it affects your experience, open the Messenger mobile app. If you can't see the choice, restart the mobile app. If you don't have the app, you can download it from your device's app store.
If you have already made your choice on the mobile app, click here to continue.
