Problem with file sizes and https or http ?

Hi,
I"m trying to setup update4j for my application. In the setup.xml I have size="8531124" as size of the jar file that needs to be downloaded. This is exactly the size of the file on my remote server. However when running java -jar update4j-1.5.7.jar --remote ... , I get the following error:
Size of file 'hclauncher.jar' does not match size in configuration. Expected: 8531124, found: 262
at org.update4j.ConfigImpl.validateFile(ConfigImpl.java:462)
at org.update4j.ConfigImpl.doUpdate(ConfigImpl.java:369)

Any idea what is going wrong ?
and secondly does one need to set the uri's with https:// or with http:// ?

I'd suggest to manually change the file size and checksum values in the config so you can get hang of the file and see what went wrong yourself.

In many cases it's an html page from the server instead of the actual file.

Depends if your server uses SSL

Thanks for the quick reply. It was indeed a response from the server, instead of the actual file.
Maybe some error checking could be added ?

You literally ran into the error checking mechanism 😉. In FXLauncher (the precursor of update4j) you'd just get the html response file without warning, potentially breaking your app.
