Let me start by praising the developers of WebTorrent - when I saw this project for the first time, I realized that part of my headache was gone without a trace :) You are doing an important thing and doing it very cool!
I will introduce myself - I am a member of the Pocketnet Team, which is developing a decentralized social network Bastyon based on the Pocketnet (Bitcoin) blockchain network.
One of the ideas of the project is to combine virtual social life and the financial side of the blockchain. This is similar to NFT-based games - every action on the network is a transaction and will be recorded in the blockchain, will be signed with your personal private key and will be stored on hundreds of PCs around the world. At the same time, each node (blockchain node) the network is an API of servers capable of fully servicing the frontend.
What we lack is a repository of images and videos. Now we are developing a project to decentralize video among users with minimal use of traditional servers. WebTorrent!!!
The essence of the idea is to embed BitTorrent tracker into the blockchain nodes, implement synchronization between them so that each tracker knows where to find a particular file, allow clients to connect to trackers and build a full-fledged decentralized video network.
The general scheme of work is as follows:
The node stores hashes of video files, descriptions and links to covers. Any node can issue a "feed" of videos and posts through its API.
A node with a tracker on board can match the portion of the "feed" being given to the tracker data - VideoFileHash = [ Tracker1, Tracker2, ... ]
Using the built-in torrent client, the client can view any video file using the tracker list and can also start "seeding" any content they like.
Bastion is an Electron-based web application - that's exactly what you did!
We are ready to discuss our ideas and potential cooperation. First of all, we would like to understand how viable this concept is, provided that the software is working stably - is it possible to have a stable torrent network with a large number of users and the usual (not high-speed) Internet quality of many.
