I want to open a new wezterm terminal window from the command line in one panel and remain on that pane.
When I used this command pattern:
$ echo$WEZTERM_PANE
11
$ wezterm cli spawn ; wezterm cli activate-pane;
20
$ # Focus remains here in pane 11
$ # The next command typed is executed "here".
A new pane is open/created in the window (WEZTERM_PANE=20)
Normlly focus would change to the new pane 20
The activate-pane command keeps (or restores) focus same pane
However a similar pattern for the --new-window option has a differnt result.
$ echo$WEZTERM_PANE
11
$ wezterm cli spawn --new-window; wezterm cli activate-pane --pane-id 11;
21
$ # Focus moves to pane 20 in the new window
$ # The next command typed is executed in the new window.
A new pane is open/created in a new window (WEZTERM_PANE=21)
I wasn't able to determin the Id for the new window.
Is there a command to show the window Id?
Focus has become the new pane 21
The activate-pane command does not return focus to the original terminal pane
The next command typed was executed in the shell session under pane 21
That result, was not what I wanted,
I want the next command typed to work in the original pane and window.
Also I am not sure how to return focus to panel 11
I used this command in the new pane 21: wezterm cli activate-pane --pane-id 11
Focus remained in that window and pane 21;
Did not change focus / activate pane 11
Is the way it is intended to work? Or is this a bug? Do I need to specify the window along with the pane Id to change focus to another window?
$ # Click on pane 11 to set focus manually
$ # ... attempt to change focus to the new pane/window
$
$ wezterm cli activate-pane --pane-id 21
$
Cursor is still in pane 11; activate-pane didn't work across windows
