Had this same issue, turns out mac has a limited number of apps that can show up there in new models. Coming from an Intel mac this was not what I expected.
Closing some apps actually made Kap appear so I can stop screen recording and export it as a video
On Sonoma 14.3.1, I can see the menubar icon initially, but when I begin recording, it the menubar icon disappears. Instead there is this system dropdown listing apps that are currently recording the screen. Clicking the Kap icon there doesn't do anything, so it's not possible to stop a recording without assigning a keyboard shortcut.
macOS version: 14.0 (23A344) (Sonoma)
Kap version: Version 3.6.0 (3.6.0.1846)
Steps to reproduce
Opening the app
Current behaviour
After opening, does not show the UI, and doesn't show up in the menubar, only dock icon is present.
Previously
Previously the app worked. I tried uninstalling and disallowing screen recording multiple times. No luck
