Getting dumb shell type when launching itself

I use a program launcher called rofi. In order to be able to use rofi to run xonsh aliases, I set rofi to run its command through xonsh by passing rofi the argument -run-command "xonsh -c '{cmd}' -l". However, if I launch a terminal like uxterm with rofi, when xonsh loads inside uxterm, the $SHELL_TYPE is dumb. Is it possible to launch terminals that behave normally?

Apparently the environment variable TERM was being set to dumb. Setting it to another value worked, e.g. -run-command "bash -c \"TERM=rofi xonsh -c '{cmd}' -l\"".
