one thing that has really annoyed me in vs code or intellij is that accepting a code completion while the cursor is mid word will insert the whole suggestion there and ruin the whole idea of completion. To get a better idea of what I mean, see this:

I love that zed is smarter and completes the word correctly.

1. Most insane feature is the problem tab. When editing a failure in rust it changes the failure for all the same occurrences. This safes a lot of time and is super handy to work with.
2. The reformat of the code while saving is the most useful OOTB setting/feature I missed everywhere else

Super great how you guys have opened up the issue list and are open to input and feedback! I can't wait for linux support and I can start using it. VScode and idea suite tools are memory hogs and extremely slow... can't wait for the responsiveness and light-weight experience that zed will deliver.

With Zed, writing code is an absolute pleasure. Its snappy interactions and lean UI help me focus on bringing ideas into reality. Having an editor that doesn't get in your way feels like having superpowers - it's like having a thin layer between my brain and the computer.

Discovering the journal was also mind-blowing; now, I have one reason less to move away from the editor, which massively helps battle context-switching.

I almost entirely switched from VSCode to Zed in the past few weeks. I can use Zed for everything, but I still rely on VSCode for a few nits:

• Terraform (and HCL) integration
• Deep git integration (i.e. GitLens)

Even in the current state I'm really really REALLY happy using Zed. Everything is so lightweight and fast that I can't believe. I've turn the vim mode on and switch completely from neovim and VSCode. Thank you so much for this editor, I want to pay to use it!

Zed shows that performance does matter. Experiencing the responsiveness and low resource requirements is like realising how nice the silence is when somebody turns off the AC

Startup-speed and LSP's responsiveness are simply amazing and since I am a sucker for looks, I'd also like to give props for making it look and feel so polished already! (including the nice little touch with rounded selected area highlights). Love that it's not forcing me to open a "project" so I can just open random files.
Totally brilliant implementation of project-wide search with live-edit and a nice-and-fast (syntax-highlighted!) outline view. Truly sweet.

The speed is honestly amazing. I don't really use macOS and the only machine I have is really rather slow (2014 vintage mac mini). Atom or VSCodium take sometimes >30s to load, Zed pops up in less than 5.

Things I like already

1. I don't risk grinding my laptop to a halt like I do with PyCharm and VS Code
2. It's so fast!! Literally. So fast. This Github form is feeling so slow after using Zed for a while 😅

Really cool, very flawless switch from VSCode, it's already so good this early, I'm sure most developers will switch after Windows and Linux platforms support. Keep up the good work 👍

I really like Zed, the only thing blocking me from switching completely is Ansible support. I know YAML is already there, but without syntax management it's pretty frustrating compared to VSCode. I hope it will be in the supported languages, or via extensions.

There's an extension request in zed-industries/extensions#151 for the community to write the Ansible support plugin, as well as a request directly to Zed to implement Jinja2 syntax support in #8965.

Got tired with the clumsiness of VSCODE, and the slow startup time of JETBRAINS, and all the difficult customisation of VIM and SUBLIMETEXT. Here in Zed we are free of all these headaches! Coding is hard enough, let's not bring any more trouble with tooling.

I've tried the Linux build yesterday (which is not even alpha yet), and I have to say that I'm incredibly impressed. Vim binding support is already better than anything out there, it's so snappy and things just work out of the box, the defaults are exactly what I expect, absolutely zero friction. Add window decorations, and this becomes my daily driver! Fantastic job!

Having been through the journey seeing onivim progress in the past.... that showed me just how many things need to be in place for a good editor experience. Zed has done so much already and it's lovely to use and simple to get setup... quicker than any other I've tried to date... Great work!

Outclassing the Big guys

I've used Zed only a coupe of times so far but just opened up the terminal and you guys blew me away! So many editors made by huge companies, I'm thinking of Msoft and Jbrains particularly, show an error when opening their terminals on macos. And yet, Zed opens up its terminal with no complaint about shell startup. Well Played folks, well played!

Considering it's not even in alfa yet on linux, it is beyond amazing. I absolutely love the minimal look, custom vim keybindings are easy to setup, overall just so simple to use and no getting used to (amazing!). I am looking forward to get my team to try it once linux is officially supported!
