Virtual environment: How to setup and use virtualenv to run this script

GIT submodule: How to update, setup and use the SimplifiedGmailApi submodule

Important

This script was developed for the CRON task scheduler. That means it is really quick finished but doesn't loop itself for example every 5 minutes.

To do this [loop] yourself very efficient install the simple GUI for the CRON task scheduler with this command:

sudo apt-get install gnome-schedule

And open it with the command:

gnome-schedule

Now copy all files of this repository on your computer.

  • Insert your own FTP credentials in credentials_ftp.json
  • Insert your own paths to your FTP files in watch_these_ftp_files.json
  • Inser the path where the file script.py is located on your computer in script.py (at the begin - look into the comments)

Then create a new CRON task over the GUI with the command:

python <path to the script.py file>

Then choose your desired time the script should be executed and save everything.

But what does it do

The script checks if the modified time of an FTP file is new (in compariston to the last crawl). If yes it downloads the new file and updates the modified date in the "_time.json" file.

It does even output what the additions of a text file were (in the console).

How to use the SimplifiedGmailApi?

You can use the SimplifiedGmailApi by setting GMAIL_API = True at the start of the main script.

If you download the repository and the submodule folder isn't there enter this:

$ git submodule update --init --recursive

After that you get the original API copied and then you can use it.
