Project Overview

This project is based on the multilayer perceptron from 42 Paris, and I have added more functionalities. For those who want to refer to this project within the scope of 42, here is the link to the multilayer perceptron - 42 Project.

1. Dataset

It is a CSV file of 32 columns, the column diagnosis being the label you want to learn given all the other features of an example, it can be either the value $M$ or $B$ (for malignant or benign).

The features of the dataset describe the characteristics of a cell nucleus of breast mass extracted with fine-needle aspiration. (for more detailed information, go here).

Attribute Information

  1. ID number
  2. Diagnosis (M = malignant, B = benign)
    3-32)

Ten real-valued features are computed for each cell nucleus:

a) radius (mean of distances from the center to points on the perimeter)
b) texture (standard deviation of gray-scale values)
c) perimeter
d) area
e) smoothness (local variation in radius lengths)
f) compactness (perimeter^2 / area - 1.0)
g) concavity (severity of concave portions of the contour)
h) concave points (number of concave portions of the contour)
i) symmetry
j) fractal dimension ("coastline approximation" - 1)

The mean, standard error, and "worst" or largest (mean of the three
largest values) of these features were computed for each image,
resulting in 30 features. For instance, field 3 is Mean Radius, field
13 is Radius SE, field 23 is Worst Radius.

All feature values are recorded with four significant digits.

Missing attribute values: none

Class distribution: 357 benign, 212 malignant

2. Implementation

Usage

usage: main.py [-h] [-s SPLIT] [-t] [-p] [-c [{models,optimizers}]]

This program is an implementation of a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), a type of artificial neural network designed for tasks such as classification, regression, and pattern recognition.

options:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
  -s SPLIT, --split SPLIT
Split dataset into train and validation sets.
  -t, --train Train with dataset.
-p, --predict Predict using saved model.
  -c [{models,optimizers}], --compare [{models,optimizers}]
Compare models by plotting learning curves.

For training with the saved model topology

python3 main.py --params topologies/saved_model_config.json -t

It saves its weight and bias in a saved_model_weights.npz file

For prediction

python3 main.py --params topologies/saved_model_config.json -p
